I'd never heard of this before -- I'm out of the target demographic, I guess -- but all the best to her.

I'm not so sure this is a good thing. Ava hasn't done anything to become famous for, but she's going to anyway. I don't see this ending good for her.

Aww, that's a nice article. She sounds very down to earth and I like it that she also likes The Great Gatsby. One of my favourite books. :-) I wish her a wonderful summer break and a great start into college.

Ava's got herself the best summer jobs ever! They made her look like her mother's clone at the same age.

Ice See - I agree with that completely. maybe it's because we are parents but I sure wouldn't want my daughter in her position. Ave has been dressing as a "object" for years now - and there are plenty of people out there willing to "objectify" her. I would rather have my kid go to NYU as an unknown and get her feet underneath her by herself in her own time.

As the daughter of 2 rich and famous parents working in the entertainment business she could have grown up under the public's eye, which is not the case. Lots of famous parents carry their babies and kids everywhere like they carry their handbag dogs, i.e. like just another fashion accessory. Heather and Richie never did that with Ava, they didn't hide her like Michael Jackson did with his own kids but they didn't exhibit her either. Remember what Richie said at one of his WTB fashion shows (the one with Ava and Stephanie Bongiovi on the catwalk)? He said that Ava wanted to do it when she was 12 but Richie told her she was too young and didn't let her until she was 15. The same with her budding movie career. She's such a doll that they probably were asked by Disney and cast agencies to let her appear in commercials and TV series ever since she was born but she did nothing until she was a teenager. And it seems that her school results were so low that they probably told her that they wouldn't let her act in a movie again unless her grades improved. And now that she's graduated (at 17) she's got herself "the best summer job ever" as she tweeted and next she's going to study theatre in NYU although she could have stayed in LA and become a TV/movie actress instead of studying. So I'd say she seems to have a rather healthy body and mind. What you don't seem to understand is that celebrity kids can't be unknowns, there'll always be some paps who will try and take pics. Now a lot of people more famous than Ava attended unis and graduated so her relative celebrity shouldn't be a problem. mentalfloss.com/article/22734/quick-10-10-celebrities-who-attended-college-post-fame

I disagree with the 2 of you (and I'm a father). I think you didn't get the point. And I'm a father of two girls. The point wasn't about Richie or Heather, they've done a fine job. But it's about Ava and her ability to distinguish what are her mertis and what are her parents. She hasn't done anything to warrant the status she has. And going on a reality-TV show, to which you're being cast just because your parents are famous is a clear sign that she doesn't necessarily know what she's doing. She's not a child, but that doesn't mean she's an adult. And like I said, when a person who has the experience of life that Ava has, which differs a LOT from the "normal" experiences, goes on a TV show, it does (to me, anyway) indicate that she wants to be famous as well. And being famous for being born in a famous family is possibly the worst way to be famous. You start thinking you're special, you think people care for you because of you, you end up with the wrong people... See what happened to Stephanie, Jon's daughter. They kept her out of the public eye, but still that's what happened. Ice

They kept her out of the public eye, but still that's what happened. Ice Maybe you didn't get the point either! What makes you think Ava's unable "to distinguish what are her merits and what are her parents"? On the contrary, she seems to be pretty aware of her "status", listen to her TV interview, she said as a kid, she had a hunch she's be working in the entertainment business because of who her parents are (paraphrasing). She knows she's famous because she was born in a famous family but she's not an it-girl, she wants to study and work to become famous for what she does, not because of who her parents are, she said to TeenVogue magazine: "I want to be an actress, director, and producer when I grow up," and on TV she said she and her Summerbreak friends were very surprised when so many fans showed up at their public "meet & greet" event. BTW, it's not a TV reality show, it's aired only on the internet where it's quite successful but gets a lot less exposure than TV. I watched a couple of episodes (if you want to know what Richie's Laguna Beach house looks like, especially the kitchen -"far too small" said my wife!- it's featured in 2 episodes ), there's nothing trashy about it, unlike what you see in TV reality shows, you only get to see a bunch of healthy rich kids enjoying the beach together, eating at restaurants, shopping for clothes, going on trips around California and stuff and chatting like any other 17/18 yo kids. Actually I find them so normal that they are boring, I have the same kind of items at home! I see nothing wrong with this show, it gives her yet another opportunity to see how things work in the "filming industry" (what do you call it when it's not cinema and not TV either???), it's a kind of apprenticeship. Here in France, spending several months working in a company is now compulsory to get your highschool diploma, rich or poor, famous or unknown, every teenager has to do it, the coolest kids gets the coolest jobs thanks to their parents and networks, that's life! It's the 3rd year that this SummerBreak show exists and, as far as I know, none of the kids from the previous seasons became famous, they just went to college as scheduled and that's all. So I don't think that Ava did it to become famous, as she said to Vogue, "This seemed like an interesting opportunity to be in front of the camera while also doing fun summer stuff and having a good time before I go away." The same with her photoshoot for Modeliste. She's been in European fashion magazines for years (French magazines always introduce her and picture her as "Heather Locklear's daughter", Richie is hardly even mentioned, let alone photographed!) but so far the photos were either from paparazzi or official photos taken on red carpets where she appeared with her parents. But now that she's almost legal and bound for college I guess she will do more of them, it's a nice and easy way to earn money and get yourself known while you're studying. Hopefully she won't fuck up like Stephanie...
